What Are Filming Amines?
Filming amines (often called polyamines) are modern corrosion inhibitors used in industrial water treatment and meant to create a continuous, microscopic protective layer on metal surfaces in contact with water or steam.
Unlike traditional treatments that rely on heavy dosing of hydrazine, phosphates, or sulfites, filming amines work through surface conditioning:
- They adhere to metal surfaces, forming an ultra-thin hydrophobic film.
- This film blocks water and oxygen from contacting the metal surface.
- It prevents corrosion, reduces scale formation, and improves efficiency throughout the entire system.
- The protective layer rebuilds continuously, reaching even the most difficult parts of the network—including return lines, condensate systems, and remote sections.
